VS Code code intelligence without cloning: what CoopAI is (and isn’t)
CoopAI Team·2 min read
What is CoopAI?
CoopAI is VS Code code intelligence. It Deep-Indexes your repositories into a remote graph (zero-clone), queries company Slack, Jira, and docs live from an admin-connected workspace, and helps you ask, complete, and edit with reviewable diffs.
It is not an autonomous coding agent. Nothing rewrites the monorepo on its own.

Do I need to clone the monorepo?
No. Deep-Index builds a searchable map (symbols, callers, ownership), then deletes the temporary clone. In VS Code you pick Use repo on an indexed remote. File bodies fetch from GitHub, GitLab, or Bitbucket when a question or edit needs them.
That is the difference between “AI that sees the open file” and “AI that can answer about the service graph without every laptop holding the whole tree.”
Is Slack / Jira context personal or company-wide?
Company-wide. An org admin connects Slack, Jira, Confluence, Notion, and Google Docs once. Developers sign in and get that shared org workspace context — not each person’s personal accounts.
Tools are queried live when you ask, not copied into a second standing wiki.
How is that different from Copilot, Cursor, or Claude Code?
| Job | CoopAI | Common alternative |
|---|---|---|
| Understand without cloning | Deep-Index remote graph | Local workspace / open files |
| Find owner / blast radius | First-class workflows | Ad hoc chat |
| Company Slack & Jira in VS Code | Admin-connected, live | Paste or leave the editor |
| Multi-file agent rewrites | Not the product promise | Cursor / Claude Code strength |
| Stay in stock VS Code | Yes | Cursor is its own IDE |

Who should use it?
Teams that lose hours reconstructing context — ownership, “why did we build it this way?”, blast radius across services — and want that answer inside VS Code, next to complete and edit.
If your bottleneck is “generate a large diff fast,” evaluate agentic IDEs. If your bottleneck is “know the stack before you touch a line,” start with CoopAI.
